A&E Signature Service Center
I worked on this project from 2000-2002 while working with the firm Envision Design, which later merged with Perkins + Will in Washington, DC. This old window-manufacturing warehouse in Pensacola, FL was renovated into a call center to house three hundred customer service representatives. The company was interested in creating a fun and refreshing space to attract and retain as many employees as possible. This was due to the high turn over rate of the appliance and electronics repair service industry. Costs were kept to $43.00 per square foot with the integration of low cost items such as glass fiber reinforced plexiglass, vibrant paints, simple light fixtures and inexpensive desk millwork composed of birch veneer doors. The elliptical shape of the workstation layout allowed managers to view all employees from a central raised area composed of two manager workstations, a conference room and the computer room. The remainder of the space was anchored by training and huddle rooms on one side and the Break Room and Human Resources on the other side.
